HOW CAN I GET THE BEST BURN FROM MY CANDLE?Updated 2 months ago
At ECOYA, we only use natural soy wax and 100% cotton wicks to ensure clean burning candles. To make sure you get the cleanest possible burn, here are some handy tips and tricks to keep your candle beautiful.
1. Trim the Wick
We recommend you trim your wick to 6mm before every lighting, this helps control the size of the flame - if your wick is too big, so is the flame and therefore it will burn through your candle faster. Trimming your wick also eliminates mushrooming, which is a cause of unnecessary soot. It’s all about the wick! You can find our Stainless Steel Wick Trimmer here.
2. Let the Wax Pool Melt Completely
For the first burn, allow the entire surface of the candle to melt all the way to the edges. This helps prevent tunneling and ensures an even burn throughout the candle’s life. Typically, this takes about 2-3 hours, depending on the candle size.
3. Burn Candles for No Longer Than 4 Hours
For safety and optimal performance, avoid burning your candle for more than four hours at a time. This helps prevent overheating and prolongs the life of your candle.
4. Soy Wax Is Best
Soy wax burns 30% cooler than paraffin or paraffin blended candles, meaning your soy wax candle will always last longer and emit less black smoke. Soy wax and beautifully trimmed cotton wicks are the secret to the perfect burn.
5. Keep Candles Away from Drafts
Drafts from open windows, air conditioning, or ceiling fans can cause uneven burning and flickering. Place your candle in a spot where the flame remains steady and safe.
6. Keep Candles Away from Flammable Objects
Always burn candles in a safe, heat-resistant holder and never leave them unattended. Keep them away from curtains, papers, and other flammable materials.
7. Reposition the Wick If Needed
If the wick starts to lean to one side during the burn, use a pair of tweezers to gently reposition it back in the center. This ensures an even burn and prevents the wick from becoming too close to the glass.
8. Stop Burning When There's Less Than 10mm of Wax
To prevent overheating the glass, avoid burning your candle when only 10mm of wax or less remains. This can cause damage to the vessel.
9. Store Candles Properly
When not in use, store your candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. This prevents the wax from melting prematurely or the fragrance from dissipating.
10. Reuse Your Empty Jars
Once your candle has burned down, don’t throw the jar away! You can reuse the glass jar in many creative ways. Enjoy the sustainability of a second life for your candle by using your vessel to store cotton buds and make up brushes or use them as a desk accessory to store your stationary.
